PORT PHILLIP BASKETBALL ASSOCIATION

  • Who Are We

Port Phillip Basketball Association (PPBA) is a volunteer-run organisation that runs a Saturday Afternoon Basketball Competition for Primary and Secondary School boys and girls.

The competition is held at Melbourne Sports and Aquatic Centre on Saturday Afternoons from 12 pm to 6 pm. Younger teams and the Development Programs of Hoopsters and Dribble Pass ‘n’ Shoot generally play earlier in the day. No games are held on school holidays.

The competition consists of over 100 teams with 800 players regularly playing on Saturday afternoon.

Teams are primarily from the City of Port Phillip and many of the teams develop from the local primary schools and Community Groups, however, we also have teams that travel some distance to be a part of the PPBA Saturday Basketball Competition

PPBA feel strongly about providing an opportunity for all participants to be exposed to core values, such as:

Teamwork, Leadership, Commitment, Confidence, Sportsmanship, Respect, Healthy Choices and most importantly Developing Friendships for Life. We are made up of families who want to support their children.

    Policies

    Port Phillip Basketball Association Inc.

    UPDATED LEGISLATION: http://www.workingwithchildren.vic.gov.au/toolkit/toolkit+for+organisations

POLICY DOCUMENT: WORKING WITH CHILDREN CHECKS (WWCC)

The aim of our association’s policy is to comply with both the new laws regarding working with children and also with Basketball Victoria’s interpretation of these laws.

To this end, we will require each coach and manager of a team to obtain a valid Working with Children Check. This applies to every coach and manager, from the beginning of 2009. A team will not be registered or permitted to play without these checks.

Exemptions that are acceptable are coaches who are under 18 years of age, police and registered teachers. Proof of age (or underage), police identity and Victorian Institute of Teaching (VIT) registration card, in the form of a photocopy, will be required instead.

Apply for a Working with Children Check at your local post office. This is free for volunteers.

As an Affiliate Member of Basketball Victoria, we are required to ensure that the Annual Basketball Victoria Statutory Declaration form is completed as well as the Working With Children Check.

Both these documents are required even if your child is in the team you are coaching or managing. This is a Basketball Victoria directive that must be complied with and is in addition to the WWCC regulation.
